There is nothing like a soothing
soak in your spa to help relieve the stress in your life! We hope
using your new spa becomes an essential part of your day! One thing
you spa should not be is a source of stress. We hope that the information
included in this manual will help explain how to keep your spa water
clean and clear.
EASY
SPA START UP
When filling the spa
with fresh water:
1. Add 1 bottle METAL PROTECTOR to the spa once the spa is completely
filled. Run the jets about 15-20 minutes.
2. Test the pH.
If the pH is too low add 1-ounce pH/Alkalinity up or 2 ounces of
liquid pH up. Run the jets a few minutes and then wait _ hour and
retest the pH. If the pH is in range you can go on to starting your
sanitizer. If the pH is still too low, repeat the dosage of pH increaser.
If the pH is too high add 2 ounces of LIQUID pH DOWN per 500 gallons.
Pour directly into the spa with the jets running. Run the jets a
few minutes and then retest the pH after about _ hour. If the pH
is in range you can go on starting your sanitizer. If the pH is
still too high, repeat the dosage of pH DOWN.
3. Start your sanitizer.
There are a number of ways you can sanitize your water. We put DICHLOR
CHLORINATING GRANULES in our start up kits. If you decide you would
like to try another system please come in and let us recommend one
to you.
Once you have gotten your pH into range you are ready to start adding
sanitizer. Add 1 ounce DICHLOR CHLORINATING GRANULES per 500 gallons. Also
included in your SPA CARE KIT is a bottle of FOAM GONE. A small
amount of foam on the surface of the water is normal. It is usually
caused by residue on your body from lotion, hairspray, or cosmetics.
To eliminate the foaming add one or two squirts of foam gone to
the water while the spa is operating. Large amounts of foam can
indicate a problem with your pH. Be sure to check and balance your
pH on a regular basis.
EASY SPA MAINTENANCE
Test your spa about every other day.
1. ADJUST THE TOTAL ALKALINITY.
If your test kit tests for total alkalinity, keep it in the 120-200
range. If the total alkalinity tests too low add 1 ounce pH/ALKALINITY
PLUS. Sprinkle into the spa with the jets running. Wait about 30
minutes and retest the total alkalinity. If it is still too low,
repeat the pH/ALKALINITY PLUS.
If your total alkalinity tests too high and your pH is testing in
the normal range, leave the alkalinity alone unless the pH starts
to climb up. If the alkalinity is too high and the pH is also too
high, the alkalinity will come down as you lower the pH.
2. ADJUST THE pH.
You will want to keep the pH in your spa between 7.2 and 7.8.
If the pH tests too low (below 7.2) add 1 ounce pH/ALKALINITY PLUS
or 2 ounces LIQUID pH plus per 500 gallons. Run the jets a few minutes
and then retest the pH. If the pH is still too low, repeat the dose.
If the pH in your spa tests too high (above 7.8), add 2 ounces LIQUID
pH DOWN per 500 gallons. Run the jets a few minutes and test the
pH again after about _ hour. If the pH is still too high, repeat
the dose.
Once you have the pH in range you are ready to add your sanitizer.
DICHLOR GRANULAR
You will want to keep the level of chlorine in your
spa between 1.5 and 3.0. If the chlorine tests too low you need
to add about one teaspoon of CHLORINATING GRANULES per 500 gallons.
Sprinkle it directly into the spa with the jets running.
If the chlorine tests too high, open up the cover and run the jets
on high speed. This will help to lower the chlorine level.
If you are using the spa often, it is normal to need to add DICHLOR
to the spa about every day. Be sure and test the pH and chlorine
BEFORE you enter the spa to assure that the water is sanitary. Also
wait a few hours after you use the spa to test the water. Testing
right after you leave the spa can lead to erratic readings, especially
on the pH.
You will also need to shock your spa about once a week to burn out
any organic contaminants the regular chlorine has not taken care
of. You can shock with about _ ounce of DICHLOR per 500 gallons.
To shock the spa without raising the chlorine too high, add a capful
of SPA SHOCK per 300 gallons.
BROMINE
Some spa owners prefer to use BROMINE TABLETS instead
of DICHLOR. To use BROMINE, add 1 tablet to a floater per 100 gallons.
BROMINE dissolves very slowly so you may need to use some DICHLOR
to keep your sanitizer level up.
You will need to test your BROMINE level about every other day if
you are using the spa often. Keep the level between 3 and 5 if you
are using a bromine test kit. If you are using a chlorine test kit,
keep the level between 1.5 and 3.0. If the bromine tests too low,
open up the opening at the bottom of the floater or add additional
tablets to the floater.
Spas treated with bromine also need to be shocked once a week. You
can use 2 ounce of DICHLOR per 500 gallons or 2 ounces CHLORINE
FREE SPA SHOCK.
