How Microban Works
MICROBAN
is an odorless, tasteless and colorless ingredient that is incorporated
directly into a polymer's molecular structure. MICROBAN inhibits the growth
of microorganisms by using an electrochemical mode of action to penetrate
and disrupt their cell walls and other key cell functions. These cells
are then unable to reproduce, thereby inhibiting the growth of the organism.
MICROBAN
additive molecules work continuously over the life of the product to inhibit
bacterial growth. MICROBAN protection affects only the treated material
itself. Its properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria do not transfer
to items that may come in contact with the material.
MICROBAN
protection is designed to last the life of the product, and since it is
incorporated into the material itself, it does not rub, wash, or wear
off. USE of products made with the MICROBAN additive in no way eliminates
the need to clean, disinfect or care for products the way you normally
would. MICROBAN helps keep products cleaner and fresher between cleanings.
What
are the Benefits of Microban Acrylic?
While
LUCITE cast acrylic surfaces have always been easier to keep clean than
any other materials, the addition of MICROBAN product protection will
make the sheet better: MICROBAN inhibits the growth of bacteria, which
cause stain and odor. Therefore, units will stay cleaner between cleanings.
The benefit is locked into the material itself and will not be washed
away like currently available sprays and liquids. It is engineered to
last the life of the spa. Always being there and inhibiting the growth
of various microbes will help protect the spas surface from this sort
of attack.
How
can I be sure that it is safe?
MICROBAN
has undergone extensive independent laboratory testing and has been proven
safe. It is registered with the EPA for all applications in which
it is used. Furthermore, MICROBAN is registered with the FDA for specific
end-use medical applications. Products with MICROBAN protection have been
used safely in medical applications for over ten years, such as in surgical
incise drapes, hospital bed mattresses and pillow ticking. Click here

What
are the ingredients of Microban?
MICROBAN
Antimicrobial product protection is an organic compound in the same family
as triclosan. Triclosan is one of the most widely tested antimicrobials
in the world. This product has been used worldwide for many years, in
various consumer applications including toothpaste, mouthwash and most
antibacterial soaps.
